Poco più di 17.000 spettatori suddivisi in due giorni (presenze purtroppo limitate nel numero a causa delle restrizioni imposte dall’emergenza per il COVID-19), 280 tra spotters e giornalisti accreditati (di cui 250 spotters accreditati allo Spotter Day nel giorno delle prove - venerdì 17 Settembre), cinque Pattuglie Acrobatiche, quattro delle quali estere (due purtroppo hanno rinunciato all’ultimo momento), circa 80 aerei ed elicotteri che si sono esibiti in volo, un’ampia area dedicata alla mostra statica; questi sono i numeri dell’Air Show che si è tenuto a Rivolto (Friuli-Venezia Giulia) nel weekend del 18 e 19 settembre 2021 per celebrare il 60° Anniversario della Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale “Frecce Tricolori”.
Per chi non lo sapesse, Rivolto è una frazione del Comune di Codroipo, situato a circa 20km ad ovest di Udine, ed è la sede del 2° Stormo “Cap. Pil. Mario D'Agostini” e del 313° Gruppo Addestramento Acrobatico “Frecce Tricolori”.
Nonostante le limitazioni, quella organizzata a Rivolto è stata la più importante manifestazione aeronautica organizzata in Italia nel 2021. Fortunatamente non ha deluso le aspettative di tanti appassionati, e dei tanti amanti ed ammiratori delle Frecce Tricolori accorsi da ogni parte d’Italia, e non solo, tenendo anche conto che le previsioni meteo erano molto incerte per entrambi le giornate, sabato fortunatamente il meteo è stato clemente, domenica un po’ meno; sarà che era da mesi che si attendeva questo evento, con tanta gente desiderosa di assistere alle esibizioni in volo dei velivoli e degli elicotteri sia italiani che stranieri.
I principali protagonisti della manifestazione aerea sono stati ovviamente tutti gli assetti dell’Aeronautica Militare, la Forza Aerea ha esibito tutti i velivoli attualmente in servizio (ad esclusione del T-345), dando dimostrazione di elevate capacità operative, sia degli equipaggi di volo, che dei mezzi stessi, come vetrina delle capacità aeronautiche e tecnologiche delle industrie nazionali impegnate nel settore dell’aviazione militare e civile.
A Rivolto si sono esibite anche alcune Pattuglie Acrobatiche estere, i Midnight Hawks (Bae Hawk) finlandesi, gli spagnoli con la Patrulla Aguila (Casa 101), gli svizzeri con la Patrouille Suisse (F 5E) e i polacchi con l’Orlik Team (PZL-130 Orlik). Un'altra formazione presente, anche se non acrobatica è stata la Formazione Legend, composta da alcuni velivoli da addestramento o similari, che hanno prestato servizio, o tuttora prestano servizio con l’Aeronautica Militare, M 346, MB 339A e CDII, MB 326E e K, T 6G Texan, SF 260AM, Siai S 208M e G.46-4B.
Le esibizioni acrobatiche da solista sono state svolte dai velivoli del Reparto Sperimentale Volo: F 2000A Typhoon, T 346A Master e C 27J Spartan.
Intorno alle ore 17.15 ha avuto luogo un “evento dimostrativo” durato circa 20 minuti dove la Forza Aerea ha messo in campo tutte le capacità aeree e terrestri proprie.
Tutte le operazioni “cinetiche” sono state simulate attraverso l’uso di artifici esplosivi (es. “flares”) e di aria compressa, il tutto ovviamente nella massima sicurezza per il pubblico e per i militari.
La prima fase della dimostrazione ha riguardato l’esfiltrazione di personale in un aeroporto, traendo spunto dalle recenti attività effettuate nel teatro operativo afghano. Un C 130J ha simulato l’atterraggio in pista, simulando un’operazione in ERO (Engine Runway Operation) di esfiltrazione di personale civile/militare con la supervisione dei Fucilieri dell’Aria. Subito dopo, un KC 767A, velivolo da trasporto strategico e da rifornimento in volo, ha effettuato un “overflight” a bassa quota sulla pista, per mostrare le capacità di atterraggio e decollo rapido del velivolo da trasporto strategico. Successivamente, lo scenario composito, ha riguardato l’esfiltrazione di personale ferito, ad opera delle Forze Speciali. L’F 35B (unico al momento in dotazione al 32° Stormo di Amendola ed unico esemplare di questo modello in forza all’AM) ha simulato un attacco SEAD (Suppression Enemy Air Defense), sfruttando le proprie capacità “Stealth” (bassa visibilità ai radar) per attaccare e distruggere un sistema di difesa aerea nemico.

Tale delicata azione ha liberato il campo ai cacciabombardieri Tornado IDS, AMX, e Typhoon che si sono susseguiti con attacchi simulati all’aeroporto, in ondate a 30” di distanza, a una quota di circa 100 mt. Questo è stato il preambolo all’ingresso di due elicotteri HH 101A CAESAR che in 5’ hanno sbarcato otto unità delle Forze Speciali AM, supportati dagli assetti aerei che li proteggevano sorvolando l’area in Close Air Support (supporto aereo ravvicinato). La dimostrazione è terminata con l’F 35B che ha dimostrato le proprie capacità V/STOL (Vertical/Short Take Off and Landing), atterrando in meno di 200 m al centro della pista, dopo un passaggio in hovering (volo stazionario) davanti alla platea.
A conclusione, tutti gli assetti impiegati sono sfilati nel cielo sopra la pista, con il KC 767A in formazione “Tanker” insieme ai caccia, immediatamente seguito dal CAEW (il principale assetto aereo di Comando e Controllo dell’AM) e dai velivoli di trasporto tattico C 130J e C 27J.
Alle Frecce Tricolori ovviamente il compito di chiudere la manifestazione, davanti ad una folla entusiasta nel vedere il cielo colorarsi con il nostro tricolore.
Nota (e non da poco) nella stagione 2021, i velivoli MB 339PAN sono stati decorati con le nuove spettacolari livree che celebrano i Gruppi Acrobatici precursori della Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale finalmente unificata nel 1961, quando cominciò ad essere conosciuta come Frecce Tricolori. La nuova livrea è dedicata alle prime Pattuglie Acrobatiche operative presso i singoli reparti volo dell’Aeronautica Militare che operarono tra il 1950 e il 1961, Cavallino Rampante, Getti Tonanti, Tigri Bianche, Diavoli Rossi e Lanceri Neri!
La manifestazione aerea non ha avuto solo lo scopo di divertire e intrattenere il pubblico ma ha costituito una preziosa opportunità per addestrare e verificare la capacità del personale dell’Aeronautica Militare di schierare in tempi brevi sullo stesso aeroporto un alto numero di velivoli e a pianificare e condurre operazioni aeree complesse che coinvolgono anche personale e assetti aerei di altre nazioni. L’Aeronautica Militare ha da sempre avuto l’ambizione di fare questo e allo stesso tempo la volontà di mettere in mostra e a disposizione del cittadino tutte quelle capacità che per loro natura nascono per scopi prettamente militari ma che in realtà possono tradursi anche in servizi per la collettività, come ad esempio la meteorologia, la ricerca e il soccorso, il trasporto sanitario e la ricognizione fotografica in caso di catastrofi.
A partire dalle 15.45 fino alle 18.40 l’evento è andato in diretta TV su Rai1 e, per le due giornate, sui canali social media dell’Aeronautica Militare (nello specifico pomeriggio del 18 settembre e mattina del 19 sul canale YouTube. |

Just over 17. 000 spectators divided in two days (unfortunately limited in number due to the restrictions imposed by the emergency for COVID-19), 280 spotters and journalists accredited (of which 250 spotters accredited at the Spotter Day on the day of the rehearsals - Friday, September 17), five Aerobatic Patrols, four of which foreign (two unfortunately cancelled at the last moment), about 80 aircraft and helicopters that performed in flight and a large area dedicated to the static exhibition; these are the numbers of the Air Show that took place in Rivolto (Friuli-Venezia Giulia) on the weekend of 18 and 19 September 2021 to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale "Frecce Tricolori".
For those who do not know, Rivolto is a hamlet of the Municipality of Codroipo, located about 20 km west of Udine, and is the headquarters of the 2° Stormo (Wing) "Capt. Pil. Mario D'Agostini" and the 313° Gruppo Addestramento Acrobatico "Frecce Tricolori".
Despite the limitations, Rivolto was the most important aeronautical event organized in Italy in 2021. Fortunately the event for the many fans, and of the many lovers and admirers of the Frecce Tricolori arrived from all over Italy did not disappoint the expectations, and not only, the weather forecast was very uncertain for both days but Saturday fortunately the weather was clement while Sunday a bit less; it must be that this event had been awaited for months, with so many people eager to witness the flight performances of both Italian and foreign aircraft and helicopters.
The main protagonists of the air show were Aeronautica Militare (AM - Italian Air Force) that exhibited all the aircrafts currently in service (with the only exception of the T-345), demonstrating high operational capabilities, both of the flight crews and of the aircrafts themselves, as a showcase of the aeronautical and technological capabilities of the national industries involved in military and civil aviation.
Some international aerobatic teams also performed at Rivolto: Finnish Midnight Hawks (with Bae Hawk), Spanish with the Patrulla Aguila (Casa 101), Swiss with the Patrouille Suisse (F 5E) and Polish with the Orlik Team (PZL-130 Orlik). Another formation present, although not aerobatic, was the Legend Formation, consisting of several training or similar aircraft, which have served, or are still serving with the Aeronautica Militare, M 346, MB 339A and CDII, MB 326E and K, T 6 Texan, SF 260AM, Siai S 208M and G 46.
Reparto Sperimentale Volo (RSV – Test Unit) with F 2000A Typhoon, T 346A Master and C 27J Spartan performed instead a single display.
Around 17.15 pm a "demonstration event" took place about for 20 minutes where the AM performed all its air and ground capabilities.
All "kinetic" operations were simulated through the use of explosive devices (e.g. "flares") and compressed air, all obviously in the utmost safety for the public and the military.
The first phase of the demonstration involved the exfiltration of personnel from an airport, inspired by recent activities in the Afghan theater of operations. A C 130J landed on the runway, simulating an ERO (Engine Runway Operation) of exfiltration of civilian/military personnel under the supervision of the Fucilieri dell’Aria. Immediately afterwards, a KC 767A strategic transport and refueling aircraft performed a low altitude "overflight" on the runway, to show the rapid landing and takeoff capabilities of the strategic transport aircraft. Subsequently, the composite scenario involved the exfiltration of wounded personnel by the Special Forces. The F 35B (the only one at the moment in the 32° Stormo of Amendola and the only example of this model in force at the AM) simulated a SEAD (Suppression Enemy Air Defense) attack, exploiting its "Stealth" capabilities (low visibility to radar) to attack and destroy an enemy air defense system
This delicate action cleared the airport for the Tornado IDS, AMX, and Typhoon fighter-bombers that followed with simulated attacks on the airport, in waves “30" apart, at an altitude of about of 100 meters. This was the preamble to the entrance of two HH 101A CAESAR helicopters that in 5' landed eight AM Special Forces units, supported by the air assets that protected them flying over the area in Close Air Support. The demonstration ended with the F 35B demonstrating its V/STOL (Vertical/Short Take Off and Landing) capabilities, landing in less than 200 m in the middle of the runway, after a hover in front of the public.
At the end of the flight, all the aircrafts paraded in the sky above the runway, with the KC 767A in "Tanker" formation together with the fighters, immediately followed by the CAEW (the main Command and Control aircraft of the AM) and the tactical transport aircraft C 130J and C 27J.
The Frecce Tricolori of course closing the event, in front of an enthusiastic crowd colored the sky with our tricolor.
Noteworthy (and not unimportant) in the 2021 season, all MB 339PAN aircraft were decorated with the spectacular new liveries that celebrate the Aerobatic Teams precursors of the Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale finally unified in 1961, when it began Frecce Tricolori. The new livery is dedicated to the first operational Aerobatic Teams at that operated between 1950 and 1961 in the individual aerial Units flight, Cavallino Rampante, Getti Tonanti, Tigri Bianche, Diavoli Rossi e Lanceri Neri!
The air show was not only intended to amuse and entertain the public, but it was also a valuable opportunity to train and verify the ability of the AM personnel to deploy in a short time on the same airport a high number of aircraft and to plan and conduct complex air operations that also involve personnel and air assets of other nations. AM has always had the ambition to do this and at the same time the desire to show off and make available to citizens all those capabilities that by their nature are born for purely military purposes but in reality can also be translated into services for the community, such as meteorology, search and rescue, medical transport and photographic reconnaissance in case of disaster.
Starting from 15.45 until 18.40 pm the event showed on TV on Rai1 and, for the two days, on the AM social media channels (specifically the afternoon of 18 September and the morning of 19 September on channel YouTube).
