Venerdì 30 ottobre ha avuto luogo presso Maristaeli Luni la cerimonia per la ricorrenza del 40° anniversario della costituzione del 5° Gruppo Elicotteri, Reparto che con i suoi quarant’anni di storia, ha rappresentato un elemento di primaria importanza per la Marina Militare ed ha costituito per la popolazione e la comunità locale un riferimento degli ideali che animano gli uomini e gli obbiettivi della stessa.
Dalla sua costituzione il 5° Gruppo Elicotteri con i suoi uomini e mezzi, è sempre stato impegnato in ambito internazionale in tutti gli scenari operativi in cui la Marina Militare è intervenuta per portare la pace nel mondo; non è mai stata da meno anche in ambito nazionale ed internazionale in supporto alle popolazioni colpite da calamità naturali, esprimendo ogni volta un ruolo di primo piano grazie alle encomiabili capacità di reazione e all’abnegazione e dedizione dei suoi equipaggi di volo e non.
Il Gruppo inoltre è ormai inserito a pieno titolo nel contesto sociale e territoriale dell’area geografica in cui risiede la Stazione Elicotteri, questa simbiosi si è potuta creare grazie alla peculiare attività di supporto alle locali popolazioni con operazioni di soccorso e protezione civile, ne sono la chiara testimonianza le 43 missioni di antincendio boschivo svolte nell’area ligure e toscana effettuate con successo nell’appena conclusa stagione estiva.
Con il ragguardevole traguardo di quasi 75.000 ore di volo, svolte nel corso di questi quarant’anni di storia sono valse al reparto numerosi riconoscimenti e sempre più sono tangibili i segni di sincero apprezzamento per l’efficacia dell’opera svolta e per l’instancabile impegno e generosità che da sempre caratterizzano il personale della Aviazione Navale della Marina Militare e ne permettono l’operato in qualunque scenario.
Con la partecipazione di Autorità Militari, Civili, Religiose, rappresentanti delle industrie di settore e di familiari del personale in servizio, la cerimonia è stata sicuramente un momento di raccolta di tutti gli invitati per augurare al Reparto ed al suo personale un felice anniversario e un buon lavoro per il futuro.
La presenza del CINC, Ammiraglio di Squadra Luigi Binelli Mantelli, Comandante in Capo della Squadra Navale, e del Contrammiraglio Paolo Treu, Comandante delle Forze Aeree della Marina, sono la testimonianza dell’alto valore dell’evento; entrambi accompagnati dal Capitano di Vascello Renato Battelli, Comandante della Maristaeli, dopo aver passato in rassegna le forze schierate all’interno di uno degli hangar della base hanno presenziato alla cerimonia. |

Cerimonia che è iniziata con l’intervento del Capitano di Corvetta Giuseppe DeLuisa (Capo Ufficio Comando della Maristaeli Luni), che ha preso la parola leggendo il messaggio augurale inviato dal Capo di Stato Maggiore della Marina, Ammiraglio di Squadra Paolo La Rosa, a tutto il personale del 5° Gruppo Elicotteri, evidenziando nella missiva il suo personale ringraziamento all’operato del Reparto.
Mentre il discorso introduttivo è stato proposto dall’attuale Comandante del 5° Gruppo Elicotteri, il Capitano di Fregata Fabio Livraghi, il quale ha voluto ripercorrere la storia sin dalla nascita del reparto, evidenziando come sia stata significativa e intensa, ricca di eventi e ricordi, contraddistinta dalla grande professionalità e dalla dedizione degli uomini che ne hanno fatto e ne faranno parte e grazie alle quali il Gruppo ha raggiunto gli attuali livelli di preparazione e qualità. Continuando nel suo intervento Livraghi ha posto l’accento su come abbia trovato al momento del suo insediamento nell’ottobre del 2008, una macchina (il 5° Gruppo Elicotteri) perfettamente funzionante, efficace ed efficiente, svolgendo con perizia i compiti istituzionali assegnatigli, compiti non sempre facili, in particolare quando si tratta di operazioni fuori area come in Afghanistan e in Somalia, solo per citarne alcune, e che impegnano il personale in lunghi periodi lontani dalla famiglia e dalla propria terra.
Successivamente al Capitano di Fregata Livraghi è intervenuto il COMFORAER Contrammiraglio Paolo Treu, il quale prendendo la parola ha voluto esprimere la forte emozione che lo coinvolge in prima persona, in quanto è proprio presso il 5° Gruppo Elicotteri che ha iniziato l’iter addestrativo per diventare pilota navale.
Nel proseguo del discorso il Comandante ha espresso profondo rispetto per la Bandiera di Combattimento del Reparto, emblema del vostro valore, della vostra identità e della vostra unione, ma anche simbolo del sacrificio estremo dei vostri caduti, ferite sempre aperte nei nostri cuori. Un caloroso saluto è stato rivolto anche a tutti i partecipanti presenti che hanno voluto condividere questo evento, rendendolo più ricco e più significativo, dalle autorità civili a quelle religiose e senza tralasciare quelle militari. Mentre un affettuoso ringraziamento è stato rivolto a tutto il personale non più in servizio e che hanno portato sempre con onore l’aquila sul petto. Nel ricordare che i quarant’anni del Reparto ricorrono insieme al centenario dei primi voli, per mano del STV Mario Calderara, Ufficiale di Marina brevetto di pilotaggio numero 1, colgo l’occasione per sottolineare la solidità storica della nostra identità di marinai del cielo, che ci ha permesso di operare con efficacia e sicurezza nel complesso contesto marittimo sin dalla nascita della Componente Aerea della Marina, e che ci permetterà di affrontare le nuove sfide con lo stessa forza nei contesti nazionali e internazionali, tramite anche l’acquisizione di nuovi mezzi e tecnologie.
La chiusura dei discorsi di rito è spettato al CINC Luigi Binelli Mantelli rimarcando quale sia lo stretto legame tra la Componente Area e la Squadra Navale, legame che si è consolidato sempre più, partendo dai primi voli svolti ormai cento anni fa sino ai giorni nostri, e che deve ancora crescere per il futuro prossimo. Il merito và sicuramente riconosciuto a chi ha operato con intelligenza e professionalità, e soprattutto non dimentichiamoci di chi ha dato la vita per rendere tutto questo possibile. Nella continuazione del discorso l’Ammiraglio di Squadra ha voluto sottolineare che la nostra storia continua e continuerà sicuramente ad illuminare il futuro, perché l’aviazione della Marina è uno straordinario moltiplicatore di capacità per la Flotta, agile e flessibile, che ha confermato la sua grande efficacia in tutte le più recenti operazioni in corso, portando come esempio proprio le attività del 5° Gruppo Elicotteri, senza tralasciarne nessuna componente, di efficienza e capacità operativa al servizio del paese. |

La cerimonia è stata anche l’occasione per consegnare ad alcuni militari del 5° Gruppo Elicotteri delle onorificenze (Croce Commemorative) per il servizio prestato durante le recenti missioni di pace ISAF in Afghanistan e UNIFIL in Libano, medaglie conferite dalla più alta carica militare presente. All’uscita dell’hangar gli invitati e le alte cariche militari hanno potuto assistere ad un sorvolo di tre AB 212ASW/ASuW, dove spiccava “appennellata” (termine marinaresco) alla fusoliera del velivolo capo formazione la Bandiera della Marina Militare.
La giornata si è conclusa con una festosa “invasione” dei famigliari del personale della base che hanno potuto visionare tutti i modelli di aerei/elicotteri in servizio presso la Componente Aerea della Marina, quali: AB 212ASW/ASuW, EH 101ASH e HEW, un SH 3D NLA e un TAV 8B arrivati da Grottaglie, mentre per il programma in fase di acquisizione NH 90, AgustaWestland non avendo a disposizione il modello con i colori della Marina, perché impegnato in test valutativi, ha portato a Luni un esemplare da trasporto NH 90TTH con i colori dell’Esercito Italiano, ed un esemplare configurato in antisommergibile/antinave NH 90NFH con i colori della Reale Marina olandese, versione simile a quella che entrerà in servizio a breve proprio a Luni. Inoltre non poteva mancare un rappresentante della Guardia Costiera con un AB 412CP della locale Stazione Elicotteri di Luni-Sarzana. Nell’hangar a disposizione del 5° Gruppo Elicotteri è stata inoltre allestita un’esposizione di attrezzature in dotazione al reparto nonché gli elicotteri AB 47J, AB 204AS e SH 34G/J preservati presso la Maristaeli e che hanno fatto la storia del Reparto, inoltre era presente un’area dedicata al Soccorso Nazionale Alpino e Speleologico che opera a stretto contatto con i reparti da soccorso di tutte le Forze Armate italiane. L’evento cerimoniale si è concluso il giorno dopo, sabato 31 ottobre, con l’apertura della base al pubblico, il quale come preventivato non ha fatto mancare la sua partecipazione. |

Friday, October 30 took place at Maristaeli Luni the ceremony for the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the 5° Gruppo Elicotteri (5° Helicopter Squadron), Unit that with its forty years of history, has been an element of primary importance for the Marina (Italian Navy) and has constituted for the population and the local community a reference of the ideals that animate the men and the objectives of the same.
Since its establishment, the 5° Gruppo Elicotteri with its men and helicopters, has always been committed in the international arena in all operational scenarios in which the Marina intervened to bring peace to the world; has never been outdone at national and international level in support of populations affected by natural disasters, each time expressing a leading role thanks to the commendable capacity for response and the self-sacrifice and dedication of its flight crews and others.
Moreover, the Gruppo is now fully integrated into the social and territorial context of the geographical area in which the Stazione Elicotteri (Helicopter Station) resides, this symbiosis has been created thanks to the peculiar activity of supporting local populations with relief and civil protection operations, the 43 missions of forest firefighting carried out in the Ligurian and Tuscan area carried out with success in the just ended summer season.
With the remarkable achievement of nearly 75,000 hours of flight, carried out during these forty years of history have earned the unit numerous awards and increasingly tangible signs of sincere appreciation for the effectiveness of the work carried out and for the tireless commitment and generosity that have always characterized the staff of Aviazione Navale (Naval Aviation) of the Marina and allow the operation in any scenario.
With the participation of Military, Civil, Religious Authorities, representatives of industry and family members of staff in service, the ceremony was definitely a moment of gathering of all the guests to wish the Unit and its staff a happy anniversary and good work for the future.
The presence of CINC, Admiral Luigi Binelli Mantelli, Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Team, and Rear-Admiral Paolo Treu, Commander of the Air Forces of the Navy, are evidence of the high value of the event; both accompanied by Captain Renato Battelli, Commander of the Maristaeli, after reviewing the forces deployed within one of the hangars of the base attended the ceremony.
Ceremony that began with the intervention of Lieutenant Commander Giuseppe DeLuisa (Chief Command Office of Maristaeli Luni), who spoke reading the greeting message sent by the Chief of Staff of the Marina, Admiral of Group Paolo La Rosa, to all the staff of the Gruppo Elicotteri, highlighting in the letter his personal thanks to the work of the Unit.
While the introductory speech was proposed by the current Commander of the 5° Gruppo Elicotteri, the Captain of Frigate Fabio Livraghi, who wanted to retrace the history from the birth of the unit, highlighting how it was significant and intense, full of events and memories, distinguished by the great professionalism and dedication of the men who have made and will be part of it and thanks to which the Gruppo has reached the current levels of preparation and quality. Continuing his intervention Livraghi stressed how he found at the time of his installation in October 2008, a machine (the 5° Gruppo Elicotteri) perfectly working, effective and efficient, performing with expertise the institutional tasks assigned to him, tasks that are not always easy, especially when it comes to operations outside the area such as in Afghanistan and Somalia, just to name a few, and that engage the staff in long periods far from the family and their land.
Following the intervention of Captain Livraghi COMFORAER Rear Admiral Paolo Treu, who took the floor wanted to express the strong emotion that involves him personally, as it is precisely at the 5° Gruppo Elicotteri that has started the training process to become a naval pilot.
In the continuation of the speech the Commander expressed deep respect for the Combat Flag of the Unit, emblem of your valor, your identity and your union, but also symbol of the extreme sacrifice of your fallen, wounds always open in our hearts. A warm greeting was also addressed to all the participants present who wanted to share this event, making it richer and more meaningful, from the civil authorities to the religious ones and without neglecting the military ones. While an affectionate thanks was addressed to all the staff no longer in service and who always carried with honor the eagle on the chest. As I recall that the 40th anniversary of the Unit, together with the centenary of the first flights, is celebrated by STV Mario Calderara, Naval Officer Pilot License Number 1, I take this opportunity to emphasize the historical solidity of our identity as sailors of the sky, that has allowed us to operate effectively and safely in the complex maritime context since the birth of the Air Component of the Marina, and that will allow us to face the new challenges with the same strength in national and international contexts, through the acquisition of new means and technologies.
The closing of the speeches of rite is passed to the CINC Luigi Binelli Mantelli remarking which it is the tightened tie between the Air Component and the Squadra Navale (Naval Group), tie that has been more and more consolidated, leaving from the first flights carried out by now hundred years ago until the present day, and that it has yet to grow for the near future. The merit must surely be recognized to those who have operated with intelligence and professionalism, and above all we must not forget those who gave their lives to make all this possible. In the continuation of the speech the Admiral of Group has wanted to emphasize that our history continues and will surely continue to illuminate the future, because the aviation of the Marina is an extraordinary multiplier of ability for the Fleet, Agile and flexible, which confirmed its great effectiveness in all the most recent operations in progress, taking as an example the activities of the 5° Gruppo Elicotteri, without neglecting any component, efficiency and operational capacity at the service of the country.
The ceremony was also an opportunity to hand over to some of the military of the 5° Gruppo Elicotteri of Honours (Commemorative Cross) for service during the recent ISAF peacekeeping missions in Afghanistan and UNIFIL in Lebanon, medals awarded by the highest military office present. At the exit of the hangar the guests and high military officials were able to attend a flight of three AB 212ASW/ASuW, where stood out "appennellata" (seafaring term) to the fuselage of the aircraft head forming the Marina Flag.
The day ended with a festive "invasion" of the families of the base staff who were able to view all models of aircraft/ helicopters in service at the Air Component of the Marina, such as: AB 212ASW/ASuW, EH 101ASH and HEW, a SH 3D NLA and a TAV 8B arrived from Grottaglie, while for the program being acquired NH 90, AgustaWestland not having available the model with the colors of the Marina, because engaged in evaluation tests, brought to Luni an NH 90TTH transport model with the colors of the Esercito (Italian Army), and a model configured in antisubmarine/antiship NH 90NFH with the colors of the Royal Netherland Navy, version similar to the one that will shortly enter service in Luni. Also could not miss a representative of the Guardia Costiera (Italian Coast Guard) with an AB 412CP of the local Stazione Elicotteri of Luni-Sarzana. In the hangar at the disposal of the 5° Gruppo Elicotteri was also set up an exhibition of equipment supplied to the unit as well as helicopters AB 47J, AB 204AS and SH 34G/J preserved at the Maristaeli and that made the history of the Unit, there was also an area dedicated to the Soccorso Nazionale Alpino e Speleologico (National Alpine and Speleological Rescue) that operates in close contact with the rescue departments of all the Italian Armed Forces. The ceremonial event ended the next day, Saturday, October 31, with the opening of the base to the public, which as planned did not miss its participation.
