El Alaimen Air Show 2024 titolo

English translation

The first edition of the Egypt International Air Show 2024 took place at El Alamein International Airport from 3 to 5 September.
El Alamein is a city in northern Egypt overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, located in the Matruh Governorate, about one hundred kilometers from Alexandria of Egypt, and 240 kilometers from Cairo.
El Alamein evokes the events of the Second World War, precisely the two battles of 1942 that represented a decisive turning point not only for the war in North Africa but in general, and especially for the 17,000 Italian soldiers killed.
This first edition was a unique opportunity, until now, to photograph many aircraft of the Egyptian Air Force (Al Quwwat al Jawwiya il Misriya), especially the so-called front line aircraft, F 16, Mirage 2000, Rafale and Mig 29, but also very rare helicopters like the Kamov KA 52 Alligator, the latter unfortunately without any insignia, probably of the 129 Air Division.
The airport that hosted the Air Show is also home to the 545 Air Wing (119 Air Division) - 11 Squadron (SAR) equipped with AW 149SAR, Department dedicated to the Search and Rescue – SAR.
As we have already said the Egyptian Air Force has brought many aircraft and helicopters of its inventory, unfortunately from the first line no aircraft/ helicopter was flown, But only the C 130 and Casa C295 flew to transport military school students, military personalities and civilians with their families.
Although not at the level of the European Salons, the presence of the aeronautical industries was remarkable, Leonardo Aircraft Division was present in static with an M 345 brought to El Alamein by the test pilot Quirino Bucci, already with the colors of the 61° Stormo (61st Wing) but not yet in line with the Aeronautica Militare (Italian Air Force), in flight was instead presented the M 346FA (Fighter Attack) with Giacomo Iannelli at the controls.
In the field of trainers was present the Aero Vodochody (Czech Republic) with the L 39NG project (New Generation) that should replace the now obsolete L 39 Albatross present in many countries of Asia and Africa.
The real novelty was the Turkish trainer Hürjet of the Turkish Aerospace Industry, accompanied by an F 16C of the Air Force.
The Egypt International Air Show was also a great showcase to see "exotic" Air Forces, such as that of Saudi Arabia which brought, among others, two "flashy" aircraft, an F 15C and a Typhoon special colors, with the "Vision 2030" logo, a government program that in 15 years (2015-2030) aims to get the Nation out of economic dependence linked to oil, today the sale of petroleum products represents 50% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The Royal Saudi Air Force was also present with the Saudi Hawks Aerobatic Team. The UAE was present with the most modern and representative aircraft, especially the Bombardier Global 6000, a modern Legacy aircraft converted as a platform for Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) and Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) operations. The F 16E and the Mirage 2000-9EAD have performed acrobatic demonstrations worthy of the Western Armed Forces Solo Display, also present a tanker A 330MRTT. The Emir of Qatar was present with front-line aircraft and helicopters such as NH 90TTH and AH 64E Apache, and three C 17A as support, one in the colors of the Air Company Qatar Airways, but actually military to all intents. Jordan has deployed an immortal C 130H and a new C295M and an Air Tractor AT802.
India was present only with the indigenous helicopter Dhruv MkI and MkIII of the Sarang (Pavoni) Aerobatic Team, the Indian Air Force and the Coast Guard.
For the Western countries, France obviously brought its Rafale "Solo Display" while the United States were present with varied representatives, from Units located in Europe (Aviano) and from the American continent.
The least known "delegation" was certainly the Chinese one, the People’s Liberation Army - Air Force (PLAAF) present with the transport Y 20, and with the Ba Yi Aerobatic Team equipped with the aircraft J 10C, Fighter proposed among other things to Egypt as a replacement of the first F 16C purchased in the 80s. The Chinese personnel were practically unapproachable and even the aircraft flying were positioned in the far part of the airport, away from prying eyes.
The days of the Air Show were opened and closed by the local Aerobatic Team "Silver Stars" equipped with K 8E aircraft.
The Egyptian Air Force also presented its own Musical Band, very different from the most known Western bands, in that it wore traditional costumes very impressive and as unique musical instruments of drums and bagpipes.
