BIAS, acronimo di Bucharest International Air Show, è un evento che si svolge annualmente sull’aeroporto internazionale Aurel Vlaicu (pioniere aeronautico romeno). Situato nel sobborgo di Baneasa, in passato è stato l’aeroporto principale ed ora è utilizzato da alcune compagnie che effettuano voli charter, o per voli di aviazione generale, nonché voli post manutenzione dalla locale Romaero.
Giunto alla 15ª edizione, questa manifestazione comprende una parte statica e una dinamica, con un misto di aerei ed elicotteri militari e civili. Quest’anno la guest star è stata la Patrouille de France, per la prima volta in Romania, mentre la pattuglia inglese dei Red Arrows è rimasta bloccata in Polonia, non avendo potuto decollare dall’aeroporto di Radom a seguito dell’incidente dell’F-16 Demo Team polacco.
Presenti anche due Eurofighter Typhoon F-2000A italiani del 36° Stormo di Gioia del Colle, che si sono aggiunti ad altri due EF-2000 tedeschi, questi ultimi si sono esibiti alternativamente nei due giorni. Tra gli ospiti stranieri, anche un KC-135R Stratotanker dell’Alabama Air National Guard.
La Luftwaffe, in supporto agli EFA, ha inviato uno dei tre C-130J che fanno parte del Binational Air Transport C-130J Squadron franco/tedesco. Tra i vari ospiti stranieri presenti in mostra statica c’erano un C-130H della Royal Jordanian Air Force special colours, un C-130H della Forza Aerea austriaca e un L410UVP-E dell’Aeronautica slovena, la stessa forza aerea ha inviato anche un Pc 9 che si è esibito in volo.
Naturalmente gli aerei e gli elicotteri della Fortele Aeriene ale Romaniei (Forza Aerea rumena) hanno proposto un programma di volo molto ricco. Dopo il classico passaggio di un IAR330 con bandierone tricolore, si esibiva un pattuglione di F 16 provenienti dalle Basi 71 ed 86. A seguire, vi era la simulazione di un recupero di un pilota abbattuto con l’intervento di due IAR330M e di due F-16 a protezione, il passaggio di tre C 27J in formazione, seguiti infine da esibizioni soliste di F 16 e IAR330 in varie configurazioni. Un S 70 Black Hawk della Polizia, effettuava lo sbarco con barbettone di un nucleo delle forze speciali SIAS, simulando la cattura di un sospetto, mentre un altro S 70 dello SMUR, il servizio della Protezione civile, era esposto in statica.
Oltre la sopracitata Patrouille de France, si sono esibiti in volo anche i Baltic Bees con gli L 39, il T 6A Texan II greco del Demo Team Dedalus, gli aerei della The Flying Bulls; DC 6, F 4U-4 Corsair, P 51D Mustang, P 38 Lightining I e il sempre spettacolare Bo 105, un MiG 15 (LIM-2) polacco che quest’anno festeggia i 70 anni dalla messa in servizio. L’Aeroclub rumeno era presente in forze con gli alianti IAR IS-28B2 Lark della pattuglia “White Wings”, i paracadutisti “Blue Wings” e gli Zlin 526F, e ancora gli “Hawks of Romania” con cinque Extra 300L e per finire gli “Aerobatic Yakkers” con gli Yak 52.
La parte dedicata agli “airliners”, ha visto il sorvolo di un B737-700 della Tarom con colorazione commemorativa per i 70 anni della compagnia, scortato da due F 16, un veloce passaggio è stato effettuato anche da un Airbus A321 della low cost Wizzair.
La giornata si è conclusa con un passaggio notturno di un F 16, di un C 27J e dei Flying Dragons Polacchi che hanno allietato il numeroso pubblico. Uno spettacolo pirotecnico ha chiuso le esibizioni. |

BIAS, which stands for Bucharest International Air Show, is an annual event held at Aurel Vlaicu International Airport (named after the Romanian aviation pioneer). Located in the suburb of Baneasa, it was formerly the main airport and is now used by a number of companies operating charter flights, general aviation flights and post-maintenance flights by the local Romaero.
Now in its 15th edition, this event includes a static and a dynamic part, with a mix of military and civil aircraft and helicopters. This year's guest star was the Patrouille de France, visiting Romania for the first time, while the British Red Arrows patrol was stuck in Poland, unable to take off from Radom airport following the accident involving the Polish F-16 Demo Team.
Also present were two Italian Eurofighter Typhoon F-2000A aircraft from the 36° Stormo (36th Wing) in Gioia del Colle, which joined two German EF-2000 aircraft, the latter performing alternately over the two days. Among the foreign guests was a KC-135R Stratotanker from the Alabama Air National Guard.
The Luftwaffe (German Air Force), in support of the EFAs, sent one of the three C-130Js that are part of the Franco-German Binational Air Transport C-130J Squadron. Among the various foreign guests present at the static display were a Royal Jordanian Air Force C-130H in special colours, an Austrian Air Force C-130H and a Slovenian Air Force L410UVP-E. The Slovenian Air Force also sent a PC 9, which performed in flight.
Naturally, the aircraft and helicopters of the Fortele Aeriene ale Romaniei (Romanian Air Force) offered a very rich flight programme. After the classic flypast of an IAR330 with a tricolour flag, a patrol of F-16s from Bases 71 and 86 performed. This was followed by a simulation of the rescue of a downed pilot with the intervention of two IAR330Ms and two F-16s for protection, the flypast of three C 27Js in formation, and finally solo displays by F-16s and IAR330s in various configurations. An S 70 Black Hawk helicopter belonging to the police carried out the landing of a SIAS special forces unit, simulating the capture of a suspect, while another S 70 belonging to SMUR, the civil protection service, was on static display.
In addition to the aforementioned Patrouille de France, the Baltic Bees also performed in flight with their L 39s, the Greek T 6A Texan II of the Demo Team Dedalus, and the aircraft of The Flying Bulls: DC 6, F 4U-4 Corsair, P 51D Mustang, P 38 Lightining I and the ever-spectacular Bo 105, a Polish MiG 15 (LIM-2) which this year celebrates 70 years since it entered service. The Romanian Aeroclub was present in force with the IAR IS-28B2 Lark gliders of the “White Wings” patrol, the “Blue Wings” parachutists and the Zlin 526Fs, as well as the “Hawks of Romania” with five Extra 300Ls and, last but not least, the “Aerobatic Yakkers” with their Yak 52s.
The section dedicated to airliners saw a Tarom B737-700 fly over, decorated in colours commemorating the company's 70th anniversary and escorted by two F-16s. An Airbus A321 belonging to low-cost airline Wizzair also made a quick flyover.
The day ended with a night-time flypast by an F-16, a C-27J and the Polish Flying Dragons, which delighted the large audience. A fireworks display brought the exhibitions to a close.
